The Beatles Move Westward

The Beatles portrayed the West like Hollywood movies and T.V. did. This song isn't realistic to what life  in the West was actually like. "Rocky Raccoon" takes place in the hills of the Dakotas, which was an accurate location for cowboys to be at during the 1800s. The song is about a man named Rocky, whose girl left him for another guy. Rocky wanted to shoot Dan, the man who took his girlfriend. At the showdown, Dan shot Rocky first and Rocky lost the duel. Shoot outs weren't as common as some people may think. The West has long been thought of as a place full of saloons, villains, and people shooting each other daily.  In reality, cowboys herded cattle, trained unbroken horses, and worked hard on the ranch all day long.
